In March of 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the New Public Sleeping Ban under House Bill 1365. That law was implemented on October 1, 2024 and went to affect on January 1, 2025. The law essentially prohibits local governments from allowing homeless encampments on public lands. Part of the measure gives legal standing to residents and business owners legal standing to sue local governments for failing to enforce bans and allows them to seek injuctions and recover costs.
But even though businesses have some relief, there is no real plan to help those that are displaced. The statute states that municipalities may designate specific temporary housing areas but these must include security, sanitation facilities, running water and substance abuse treatment resources. But to date, this is not being done. The bottom line is, we are criminalizing people who are experiencing homelessness and not providing suitable alternatives! Will you help us help them?

(The Orlando Sun Resort & Convention Center) I remember saying "Lord, are you sure. That seems like a big project. But you are an even BIGGER GOD!" Ever since, I have been following the bread crumbs. They led me to the incredible ministry of Illuminate Church and fantastic people and groups with similar visions like Giving Florida Hope. Together, we give our time, money and resources to make sure the forgotten of Kissimmee, Orlando and beyond can preserve some dignity, are show shown love and respect. and will eventually have homes and adequate health care, employement and housing! But we need your help!
